Rhino 1501 - Pigmented Water-Based Epoxy Primer Coating

Rhino™ 1501 is a pigmented, waterborne, general purpose epoxy primer/coating using 1:1 (equal) volumetric mixing of resin and hardener that is easy to mix, easy to use and provides superior hide and coverage. It is applied over concrete and other substrates by brush, roller or spray equipment.

Rhino 1501 Primer/Coating dries quickly, and is typically “lacquer dry” (dust free) within 60 - 90 minutes. The unique lacquer dry cure allows Rhino 1501 to be recoated quickly. The material has a long work time (2 – 3 hours) which allows larger batches to be mixed. Rhino 1501 cleans up easily with soap and water from hands and tools.

Mixing

Thorough and complete mixing is critical. A Jiffy mixer is recommended. First mix each component separately. Carefully proportion each component at the ratio of 1 part A (resin) to 1 part B (hardener) by volume. Mix at 200 – 300 RPM for 3 – 5 minutes. No stripes or color variation should be visible in the mix. DO NOT use liquid material beyond three hours from mixing time. Although the product appears unchanged, poor gloss and film properties will result if material is applied after the three hour limit.

IMPORTANT: After mixing, wait 10 – 15 minutes before application to allow for the required "induction" of material prior to application. Mix no more material than may be applied in 3 hours.

Priming / Base Coat

When using Rhino 1501 as a primer, apply material at the rate of 150 – 200 sq. feet per gallon by brush or roller. Allow material to cure 6 – 8 hours, or overnight before re-coating to be sure all water has evaporated. When priming steel, prepare surface by sand blasting or other mechanical abrasion. It is easily applied by brush or roller.

When using Rhino 1501 as a stand alone coating, two coats should be applied. The first coat typically covers 150 - 200 sq ft/gallon or 4 - 5 mils dft. A second coat should be applied at 150 - 250 sq ft/gallon (3 - 4 mils dft) for best results. Allow 4 - 6 hours between coats and an overnight cure of the final coat before returning the area to service.
